Mild steel ERW is a far superior product over any standard mill finish mild steel tube. This is because it is produced using a controlled electric resistance welding technique, offering higher precision dimensional tolerances, a better surface finish and higher tensile properties. 

What does ERW tube mean?

ERW stands for Electric Resistance Welding. Unlike standard mild steel tube formed from hot rolls, ERW mild steel is made by cold forming a flat steel strip, then passing it through a series of forming rollers to obtain a longitudinal seam. The two edges are then simultaneously heated with a high frequency electric resistance current and pushed together to produce a strong bond. Since this method of seam welding doesn't include any fusion metals, the tube or pipe is both strong and durable.

ERW tubes have many uses and are ideal for forming and light loading applications. This erw tube is commonly used for car exhaust systems, hand-railing, shop racking, scaffolding and frame work.

What does CDS tube mean?

CDS round tube is another type of mild steel round tube we advocate and supply. CDS stands for cold drawn seamless tube. To achieve a seamless tube, the cold roll drawing process has a few more steps and therefore the cost to produce is higher. However, depending on which application you are using your mild steel tube for, we recommend CDS tube if you're looking for a mild steel tube with enhanced physical properties, such as greater accuracy, uniform tolerance, increased strength and enhanced machinability.
